I've belonged to WeatherMatrix since it was the Central Atlantic Storm Investigators back in 1998. The founder, Jesse Farrell, has been an employee of AccuWeather for some time, and he's largely kept the two separate, apart from his defense of AccuWeather's purchase of Senator Santorum and their collective efforts to dismantle the National Weather Service as we have known it. Well, now AccuWeather has made another "investment" by buying WeatherMatrix. To that end, I'm setting up a "replacement" forum for those who don't want to support AccuWeather's efforts to take the data that we taxpayers pay whopping amounts of money to acquire and keep it from the public, unless the public wants to pony up more money to see the data they've already paid for. Weatherforum.net will debut on July 19, 2005.
Those who want to move with WeatherMatrix over to AccuWeather are welcome to do so, of course. That's a personal decision and is and should be entirely up to each individual. For those who don't want to go but wish to maintain that sense of commmunity, outstanding information resource, and "home" for like minded individuals, weatherforum.net will be a great alternative. I hope to see you there!
I've set up an area at weatherforum.net for Davis WeatherLink discussions. What are your thoughts about using that site rather than this one - lots of other good weather info and discussion will be there, and perhaps one fewer forum for folks to check. Please let me know your thoughts.

Gary you got this board set up pretty fast. Were you planning this or was the Weathermatrix decision the reason? Anyways I also left Weathermatrix. As I told Jessie I just couldn't support it under the AccuWeather unbrella. As for the Weatherlink board I suggest you discontinue it. What that board needs is posters and bringing this group over there would be a good start.

No, I wasn't planning it at all; never crossed my mind. WeatherMatrix has been a great place for weather nuts to 'hang out." But when i got Jesse's e-mail, saying in so many words that WeatherMatrix had sold out to AccuWeather, I felt like I had to do something. So, I just went to see if weatherforum.com was available (it wasn't, taken by a "squatter"), then tried weatherforum.net. That was free, so I immediately signed up for it. I was hot enough about the Accuweather thing that I made a couple posts on other forums about what I was thinking of doing, and got enough encouragement that I followed through on it.
Thanks for your thoughts; this board has grown pretty nicely. I don't want to inconvenience folks by switching, but maybe it's one less forum for everybody to visit; and more information about related but non-WeatherLink topics can be had at weatherforum.net.
Thanks, Ocala!

Hi Gary, I voted to move it to the new forum also. As far as Weathermatrix, I've been with them since 2002 when I started researching for a replacement to my 15 year old Heathkit weather station. I'm kind of in a wait and see what happens mode at the moment. I must say though I'm not optimistic about the direction things could take over there. I also would like to say thank you for giving us an alternative place to get together. Now if we could just figure out a way to get some folks at Davis to join us in our discussions. I know they must be out there lurking.

Davis certainly knows about this forum and I know that they lurk at WeatherMatrix. I'll be inviting reps from each weather station manufacturer to participate in the forum, and am looking into the possibility of webcasts or at least scheduled chats with them at some point in the future. Thanks for your feedback, Mark

Sorry, but have to disagree with closing this Forum or the VPUG. They are use specific and hold a lot of good information for the product as intended and unless this info can somehow be either imported or archived for a reference I have to vote on keeping it open. Your call Gary.
On the other hand if this BBS can be made read only it would make a great resource unlee the posts can be moved to your new forum

Hi from a Wx newbie. Is Weatherforum.net the same as Wxforum.net? If so I've been trying to register for a few weeks now and have no success. I have filled in the 'Register' form and get an acknowledgement email that says my request is under consideration and I'll get an 'activation' email but nothing yet received. If you are to please pass this message onto their admin. Personally I'd visit both forums (if I could ;0) as I'm looking for as much and as varied info as possible.

Hi, I'm an admin on WXForum.net (the replacement for weatherforum.net which was grabbed by a domain squatter in July, 2006) Would you mind trying registration on WXForum.net again, and I'll see what happens with your registration. Best regards, Ken
