Here's a link to the pws.html file that I use on my site to display XML data from other sites. It links to a .zip file so you just get the code rather than going to the page itself, having to "save as" etc. Feel free to modify this code as you wish to meet your needs. www.qsl.net/n6skk/pws.zip

The only thing I see that's off about this whole thing is that every time a new site comes on board, everyone has to change their page to incorporate the new data, unless I am missing something...(?)

Nope, as far as I know, you're not missing anything. XML can't quite generate a complete web page on its own, there's still human intervention involved. If this continues to spread, I would envision that one might only wish to post data from relatively nearby stations in their region, or perhaps representative sites around the country or world, rather than necessarily displaying complete data from all of the participating stations. At this point, we still seem to have a high concentration of users in the northeast US, and the others are scattered around IA/NE/TX/FL/CA, then one user each in Canada, New Zealand, the UK, and The Netherlands.

Don't know about Colorado, but I thought I would try my hand at just for Virginia. I found it to be very labor intensive using FrontPage guess there is no easy way to create the tags unless I missed something. Anyway it was my first attempt in the art of xml. Here are the results. www.crewe-weather.d2g.com/vapws.html

I haven't used FrontPage, but making the file in the first place was indeed labor intensive, as is any other built-from-scratch web page. I hope that anyone using data from any site participating in the wXML Project is using "View Source" to save pws.html to disk then doing cutting and pasting to display only that which they feel is germane - that cuts down on the time a bunch! For new sites joining the project, now that there is at least one participant from each "brand" of software, it is very simple to add a new user. I just copy and paste the table from another user utilizing the same weather software, paste it at the bottom of the page, then simply change the "#dsoCity1" to "dsoCity2" and it is ready to go.

Your instructions are very close to what I did, including copy and paste the table for my particular software.

Haven't had time to finger it, but if you use FP to create/publish the pws file, it corrupts it and strips the code. You end up with no readings... When I get a moment, I'll nail it down.. In the mean time, use notepad and manually ftp it.....

I run a local Web Server over DSL, John. I also use DNS2Go for redirection so at times the redirector might be down or due to severe weather I might shut down to protect from lightning strikes.

Buy a Zero Surge to protect your system. Haven't shut down my systems ever since putting them behind a ZS. Zero Surges can't be beat! www.zerosurge.comWell worth the investment. Bob

FrontPage does have a rep for mangling code, which is why I've never used it. There are several very strong HTML editors out there that make life easier than Notepad (though Notepad does indeed work just fine) you may want to consider as well, and they leave your code as you've written (or imported) it - 1st Page 2000, Ace, HTML-Kit, and others.

I use FP 2003 and I don't have that issue. The only real problem is that it wants to use the same theme (background) for all pages, so I just change font colors and I am fine. Takes me about 20 minutes as I begin to tinker and think, Thinking is sometimes good, other times.... But otherwise what I do is go to GARY's page, list the source code, save it as a txt file, copy and paste it over the code I want to replace, check that it works and upload. but then again..

I find FP 2000 to do just fine for me and it is mindless and quick. I don't use the server extensions or upload features

Don't count on your UPS's to stop surges. Anything that uses an MOV is an accident waiting to happen. Been there, done that and never will again.
