This Javascript presents the [shadow=red,left,300]Beaufort Force[/shadow] number and brief description, using the High Wind Speed tag. It can easily be changed to utilize the current wind speed or ten minute average simply by changing the tag. It is based on MPH, but can readily be changed to correspond to the threshholds for other units of measurement.
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="javascript">
var force = <!--hiWindSpeed-->
if (force <= 1.0) {beau = "Force 0 - Calm"} if (force >= 1.0) {beau = "Force 1 - Light Air"} if (force >= 4.0) {beau = "Force 2 - Slight Breeze"} if (force >= 8) {beau = "Force 3 - Gentle Breeze"} if (force >= 13) {beau = "Force 4 - Moderate Breeze"} if (force >= 19) {beau = "Force 5 - Fresh Breeze"} if (force >= 25) {beau = "Force 6 - Strong Breeze"} if (force >= 32) {beau = "Force 7 - Gale"} if (force >= 39) {beau = "Force 8 - Fresh Gale"} if (force >= 47) {beau = "Force 9 - Strong Gale"} if (force >= 55) {beau = "Force 10 - Whole Gale"} if (force >= 64) {beau = "Force 11 - Storm"} if (force >= 75) {beau = "Force 12 - Hurricane"}
document.write(beau) </SCRIPT>
