I have Weather Link 5.6 & continue to have problems with freeze ups. It works fine for a few hours & then I notice it is not updating.
It then tells me it can not find Com Port 4. When I do the Auto search from a Com Port it tells me it can find none
Anyone else having this problem ?

Have you considered upgrading to 5.7 or even 5.8

I have also been experiencing several lock ups with the newest version of Weatherlink (5.8). When mine locks up, it will not allow me to close the application, nor will not allow me to use task manager to cancel the process. It takes a reboot of the computer to get the program to close so it can be restarted.

I have a Davis Vantage Pro2 with Weatherlink 5.7.1 posting to a web site www.greenport.ws/weather/Current_Vantage_Pro.htm. Operating system Windows XP. USB from data logger to computer The Weatherlink software crashes frequently. I inquired with Davis as to whether a software upgrade would help with the crashes and was told it probably would not. Davis apparently knows there is a problem with Weatherlink crashing. I am thinking of going to ambientweather.com's Virtual Weather Station. The cost for the Internet version is $100, more than I want to spend for practice. Is anyone familiar with Weatherlink and crash problems? Does Virtual Weather Station have crash problems? What's with weatherlink and all the crashing?

The USB version is known to be far less stable than the serial version (using a USB adapter). You may want to look at Cumulus software; it's free, does CWOP/APRS updates, and web pages. See www.sandaysoft.com. Very stable, and nothing lost if you don't like it. But I fear the USB connection may be the source of your issues and the type of software used *may* not have any affect on the stability. But again, trying Cumulus for free may at least help troubleshoot to that level.

My weatherlink was crashing about once a week, which I could live with. The power company cut the power to my house about a month ago. somehow it fried my BIOS chip. I got a new chip and got back in bussiness but with the new BIOS chip and the power cut off I was crashing every day. In an effort to find a solution I went to the ambient weather support group and found this: ambientwxsupport.com/smf/index.php?topic=2999.0 (you needed to register) This is the heart of the solution we received: A variety of USB controllers in use on your system may have a bug that sometimes causes devices to become unresponsive. This bug may be due to a race condition in the power management software that is responsible for powering down unused devices, called "selective suspend." Turning this setting off will prevent each USB device from being individually powered up/down when not in use, therefore alleviating the erroneous condition. To disable selective suspend on all USB devices, do the following: Open the Registry on the affected machine and navigate to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\USB (if key is not present please create it). Edit or create a DWORD value named DisableSelectiveSuspend and set it to a decimal value of 1. Reboot the computer. .... I tried the registry fix and I saw someplace to set the time of the vantage pro weather station time to be equal to or later than the time on the computer. So far it is working. I haven't crashed in 48 hours. Too soon to tell if it is a permanent fix, but it is better than it was.
