I have been trying to make what I thought would be a simple change to the WLink data template that I send to my web page (www.borzelleri.com), but with no success so far. I want to change "Current Weather at Weimar, CA" to "Current Weather at Bob and Deb's House in Weimar, California". The "Current Weather at..." in the htx template looks for "<!--StationCity-->, <!--StationState-->" and comes up with "Weimar, CA". I am unclear as to where the code goes to get that info. The only obvious place where I have entered the city/state info is in the NOAA report setup in Weatherlink, but those fields are too limiting to include the info I want to display in the "Title" box on my page (not to mention the fact that NOAA probably doesn't care that the data come from Bob and Deb's house). I thought of modifying the code in the index.htm (was formerly current_vantage_pro.htm) file, but I think that file gets rewritten with each update. I tried to change the .htx file tag:"<!--StationCity-->, <!--StationState-->" to "Current Conditions at Bob and Deb's House in Weimar, California, but I couldn't get it to run. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks ...Bob www.borzelleri.com

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Easy fix here. You're right not to modify the .htm or .html file; only change the .htx file, as that's the template from which the .htm/.html file gets written. Just overwrite the <!--stationName--><!--stationCity--> stuff with whatever you want it to say; for example, instead of using "Current Weather from <!--stationName-->, <!--stationCity-->" just change it to read "Current Weather from Bob and Deb's House". That's it - you don't HAVE to use the tags at all for names & stuff. Things like that which don't change you're probably better off using hand "written" language rather than using WeatherLink's HTML tags. You can just open the .htx file in Notepad, use a free HTML editor like 1st Page 2000 ( www.evrsoft.com) or others, or an expensive commercial HTML editor.

Hi Gary... Thanks for the response. I think I followed through on what you suggested. Here is what is currently in the index.htx file in my weather station/templates directory: <HTML> <HEAD> <TITLE>Current Weather Conditions at Bob and Deb's Home in Weimar, California</TITLE> </HEAD> <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="150";> <BODY bgcolor=PaleGoldenrod> Here is the relevant line in the most recently uploaded index.htm file in the same directory: <HTML> <HEAD> <TITLE>Current Weather Conditions at Bob and Deb's Home in Weimar, California</TITLE> </HEAD> <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="150";> <BODY bgcolor=PaleGoldenrod> When I ran an upload after modifying the .htx file, I still got the old location of "Weimar, CA". I then deleted the index.htm and all weather data files on the host site and started again. Strangely, the new upload left me with "Weimar, CA". At the moment, I am stumpted to understand where the location reference is coming from. I guess there might be a backup file somewhere that is over riding the new upload, but where it is is beyond me. Any thoughts? BTW, your efforts in putting this site together are notable. It was surprising to me to discover the lack of emphasis on sofware support on the Davis site. ...Bob www.borzelleri.com

Thanks, Bob. Davis does a great job of hardware support, but much, much less so on supporting their WeatherLink software in my view. While they have a pretty good public beta process for debugging, they don't seem to pay much heed to user input for functionality changes. While Weather Display and VWS have very active online user communities, WeatherView32 has none, and the ones that do exist for WxSolution and WeatherLink I've started. Dan Hanson from WxSolution visits that forum - though it has been much slower to get off the ground than this one - but if Davis shows up here it is only to lurk. That's disappointing.
Back to your question. I think I see the problem. When I "view source" on your page, it seems the only place where it shows "The Weather at Bob and Deb's House" is in between the <title></title> tags. What that does is simply title the HTML page so that if you have it open in a browser, that text will (and does) show up in the browser's title bar (running across the very top of the browser window). That in and of itself is all well and good, but I think what you're hoping to change is that which appears ON the page itself, in the box between the Davis logo and the current temperature. To do that, you'll need to change the text in the area shown below. I've cut and pasted a bunch of the HTML code before and after the area in question just to make it easier for you to find in your .htx file:
<param name=borColor value=153,000,051> <param name=backColor value=255,255,000> <param name=fontColor value=000,000,000>
</applet> </center> </td> </tr> <tr> <td bordercolor="#000000" bgcolor="#000000" colspan="2" style="border: thin solid rgb(0,0,0)"><font face="verdana, Arial, Helvetica"><strong><font color="#A8B8C8"><big> [glow=red,2,300]Current Weather at Weimar, CA[/glow]</big></font></strong></font></td> <td nowrap bordercolor="#000000" style="border: thin solid rgb(0,0,0)" rowspan="23" valign="top" align="center" bgcolor="#73ADD6"><font face="verdana, Arial, Helvetica"> <p align=center><img src="OutsideTemp.gif" alt="Current Outside Temperature"> <img src="OutsideHumidity.gif" alt="Current Outside Humidity"> <img src="DewPoint.gif" alt="Current Outside Dewpoint"></p><br> <p align=center><img src="WindChill.gif" alt="Current Wind Chill"> <img src="THW.gif" alt="Current THW Index"> <img src="HeatIndex.gif" alt="Current Outside Heat Index"></p><br> <p align=center><img src="WindDirection.gif" alt="Current Wind Direction"> <img src="Barometer.gif" alt="Current Barometer"> <img src="WindSpeed.gif" alt="Current Wind Speed"></p><br> <p align=center><img src="OutsideTempHistory.gif" alt="Outside Temp History"> <img src="BarometerHistory.gif" alt="Barometer History"></p><br> <p align=center><img src="Rain.gif" alt="Today's Rain"> <img src="RainStorm.gif" alt="Storm Rain Total">
That's where the "Current weather at Weimar, CA" is coming from. Note that what I pasted is from the .htm file - your .htx file may read instead something like "Current weather at <!--stationCity-->, <!--stationState-->" and you'll want to replace those tags with "Bob and Deb's House" or whatever your want to have there instead of what's showing up now.
I hope this takes care of it; if not, just ask away - we'll get it solved!
Gary

Hi Gary...
Thanks for the help. It worked great.
I got the location up and then started having an update problem with the graphs. After trying to troubleshoot that for far too long, it occurred to me that going back to the beginning with the upload setup would take far less time. That done, I now have the graphs working to add to the now correctly coded location. Thanks again.
...Bob
